Our positive climate benefits are more than twice the size of Swedish emissions. In Västernorrland, 85 percent of the land surface is forest. Here, the forest industry is the backbone of the region’s economy, contributing jobs and tax revenue. Västernorrland is the region in Sweden where the largest share of public activities is financed by the forest industry. Through our products, we can contribute to more climate benefits and we invest in research to replace even more fossil materials.
Together, the forest industries plant 400,000,000 seedlings every year and ensure that the forests grow.
This means that the value of what we do increases – so we can contribute even more to Västernorrland’s economic development. The fact that Västernorrland is a forest county gives us a special responsibility. With the right political conditions for active use of the forest, even more can be done. A stable and sustainable supply of renewable forest raw materials is a key factor for the industry’s competitiveness, for the region’s vitality and for the power of the green transition. Here, all actors must act together. The government, the region’s politicians, the authorities and the industry. Firstly, it is about working for the sustainable implementation of EU legislation.
The forest industry in Västernorrland plays a key role in this work. We have the power to make a difference and we are prepared to do more.
